ABOUT

Women’s Empowerment Workshop in Vail, Colorado September 15-18, 2011

We invite you to unplug from your daily life and plug into the power of nature! Join this exciting adventure to discover the power of nature, and the power of you.

In the beautiful Rocky Mountains, discover your power – not by conquering nature but by learning to listen to it and experience its lessons, like balance, wholeness, rest, play, problem solving, flexibility, perspective and patience. Then integrate nature’s lessons into your life wherever you live!  Learn how to scout rapids on the Colorado river, and how you can scout the “rapids” in your life. Discover that climbing a rock face in a centered, intentional, courageous way can be applied to obstacles in the Board Room. Plunge deep into Women’s Inner Wisdom and unlock secrets you hold within about discernment and self-awareness. Practice grounding with a 150 year old spruce tree, and discover that you can do it sitting at your desk at work. Allow horses to teach you trust and honesty, as they reflect back your truest emotions.

Enjoy the  “AHA!” moments, and get inspired  to manifest your power into your family, work, community and world. Create and personalize your workshop experience by choosing the outdoor explorations that call to you. Speakers, seminars, one-on-one consults and plenty of free time to integrate new wisdom. Every program draws on the mind/body/spirit connection. Tools learned are easily transferable to your personal life and home environment.

Professional wilderness guides, climbers, equine Gestalt master, yoginis, energy healers and spiritualists give this workshop depth and diversity.  Internationally acclaimed speaker Lynne Twist, founder of Soul of Money Institute and Pachamama Alliance, and Shannon Galpin, founder of Mountain2Mountain, offer inspiring experiences and perspectives about what empowerment means to and for women on the personal, family and global level.

PROGRAM

Greet the Day!

Yoga, meditation, a brisk walk, run, or swim awakens senses, releases what does not serve us and grounds into the day.  Or, you may decide that rest is what you need!

Envision Your Life

Find your values, strengths, purpose and create a vision statement and action plan for your life. This workshop forms the basis for each woman’s personal work moving forward. Beginning with a silent walk through the woods to connect to elements of the natural world; going through an exploration of what we value and what our personal strengths are, we can then formulate our life purpose and a vision for the woman we want to bring forth. We end with specific goals and an action plan.

Rafting/kayaking

It has been said that one never steps in the same river twice. It is true of our daily lives as well, each one new and filled with opportunities and challenges. On the Colorado River, and with expert guides from Timberline Tours, we will explore the metaphor of River as Life. Inflatable kayaks provide individual challenges for those who choose, while a paddle raft gives others a similar experience within a group context. As a river flows, so does our life, ever-changing and with surprises around every bend. Overcoming fears, learning to balance, have strength and flexibility and knowing when to rest are all part of this journey. How do we navigate obstacles? Do we know how and when to “eddy out”? What elements of play can we find in the challenge of taking control of our own craft on the river of life?

Nature Photography

One of Colorado’s premier nature photographers, Bill Bonebrake has developed an inspiring perspective through the lens of the camera. Bill leads participants into the woods and onto the mountains to capture the essence of the natural world with a camera. In addition to learning specific techniques of nature photography, Bill will assist participants in using the camera lens to connect to nature, to what they see and feel. Grounding, intuition, patience and perspective are intrinsic skills to master in nature  photography.

Climbing

We all run into walls in our life. How do we approach such a roadblock?  Led by Adventure Travel Guides International, this climbing excursion offers an approach that involves understanding the nature of the wall, working out its intricacies and challenges, and then discerning a strategy for conquering it one hand-hold and foot-hold at a time.  Critical thinking, overcoming emotion and fear, developing a strategy, and teamwork make climbing an empowering metaphor for overcoming obstacles in our life.

Equine Empowerment

Horses represent the amazingly symbiotic partnerships we are capable of forming in our lives. These half-ton “flight” animals  are perfect mirrors and capable of teaching humans the nature of pure trust and truth.  Renowned Gestalt Equine facilitator and founder of Touched by a Horse, Melisa Pearce, uses horses to help people understand their emotions and intuition in a new way, which deepens a trust in their own self-knowing and personal power.

Women’s Inner Wisdom

Take a journey into yourself to discover and trust the wisdom you hold within your body, mind and spirit. In these three separate, yet connected sessions held amidst the spectacular, lush beauty of the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, women will explore the synergy between nurturing oneself and others, and learn tools for quick rejuvenation, discernment, and life-long self-care and empowerment. Women will explore guided meditation, chakras, herbal therapy, journaling, the visioning process and emotional self-awareness tools such as grounding, communication, and stress relief.

Mountain/Wilderness Experience

magine stepping into the wilderness, walking a path through the forest. You come upon a fork in the path, roots and rocks to step over, solitude. Finally you reach the high point in the landscape, a knoll, a lake, a peak.  You look back to see that each foot forward shaped the journey, each foot forward delivered you closer to yourself, your dreams.  Not unlike a hike into the backcountry, each choice we make contributes to our journey and helps us to attain a destination.  With the expert guidance of Trailwise Guides, Inc., women will spend a day exploring Vail’s scenic backcountry, away from civilization.  This day-long hike is designed to deepen your connection with the natural world, help you feel the pulse of your heart, awaken your breath to freshness and vitality, enliven your soul, and to illuminate nature’s role as a resource.   All abilities levels are welcome.  Trailwise Guides, Inc. operates under a special use permit by the White River and San Isabel National Forest and by the Bureau of Land Management. Trailwise Guides, Inc. is an equal opportunity provider.

Mountain Hike

This walking meditation calls on intuition to feel into the visceral experience of the senses. Using the natural world to connect mind, body and spirit, we find both internal and external anchors for our being. What do we notice in nature, and how does that relate to our personal journey? What wisdom does the natural world have for us when we are awake and receptive to it?

SPEAKERS
Lynne Twist
Author of The Soul of Money and Founder of The Soul of Money Institute and Pachamama Alliance

Great leaders, like Jane Goodall and Nelson Mandela, derive their power from taking a stand. They know the distinction between taking a position and taking a stand. Taking a position, or having a “point of view,” forces us to take sides and argue for or against. It gets us going, but rarely has a lasting influence. Taking a stand opens up new visions and possibilities, and adversarial feelings begin to dissolve. It is a way of living and being that strengthens our capacity to make a difference.

You don’t have to be a Gandhi to make a difference in your family, job, in your company, in other important places in your life. We all have a stand inside of us waiting to be expressed, and when we are in touch with that place, we become more fully ourselves.

In this keynote, Lynne Twist shares the astounding results of the stands that she and other everyday heroes have taken. You will learn that without changing careers or revolutionizing your business, taking a stand:

  • Empowers you to move to a new level of leadership — in your community, job, company, or industry
  • Enables you to realize your vision
  • Accomplishes real change and lasting solutions

Lynne will help you understand how taking a stand gives us greater clarity and a broader capacity to see the potential in other people and in any situation. It allows us to gain access to previously unknown inner and outer resources. Ultimately, we become better women, better leaders, better people.

Shannon Galpin
Founder of Mountain2Mountain
Waking Lions
short film will be shown

Shannon Galpin founded Mountain2Mountain in November 2006 to support fundraising for NGO’s working in mountainous regions of Pakistan and Nepal. Then, after having her own daughter, she realized she couldn’t live in a world where women and girls are denied opportunities, treated as commodities and live most of their lives in fear. She now focuses on remote war-torn regions where women’s oppression is the worst.

Believing that connecting communities on both sides of the equation is key to finding sources of funding and long-term sustainability for M2M, she has now developed events that involve communities and educated individuals through sport and photography.  Continually breaking barriers, in 2009, she became the first woman to mountain bike in Afghanistan, a country where the culture does not allow women to ride bikes.

Waking Lions short film, will be shown before her talk. Produced and directed by Allsion Otto, Waking Lions is a short film about M2M and founder Shannon Galpin’s ground-breaking mountain bike ride through Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley. Premieres March 12 at the Denver Film Society’s Voices, a festival celebrating the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Watch Trailer
